This morning I found myself overwhelmed w missing my Mother, just thinking about Thanksgiving and all the Holidays, even her birthday this past September. Oh my gosh. She used to start building up and getting everyone ready for her birthday, reminding everyone as if anyone had ever forgotten. I used to think what the heck, I make a big deal every year. How did she forget that!?!? She would have already been bugging me about every element of Thanksgiving now for at least the past two months. To which I would be rolling my eyes. Because yes every year for almost 30 years I have rolled out the most extravagant family meal ever and yes i was trying to make her happy. I do love cooking for everyone, making their faces smile. Most importantly I enjoyed making memories for everyone.
Right now all I can think of is all her bugging were the memories she was making for me. She wasn't bugging me, she was edifying me, building me up and making sure I knew she noticed every little detail that I did for everyone. Well, Thank You Mom!! I sure did need those memories, I am treasuring them.
The below verses outline some real heavy stuff, speaking in tongues and prophecy. Im thinking we may want to step back and look at the message as what is edifying the church. People get so caught up in their abilities, and want to flaunt them for their own edification. Shame on us. Even at work, people focus so heavily on how important their own contributions are, threatened by any value add by others. This entire practice is so backward... And OMG we even do it at church. Yikes right. We need to build each other up, and build the church up (the body of Believers not a building). Trust in the Lord, He will send you the person or persons to build you up. You dont need to do that yourself, you don't need to act like you are running for office your entire existence. Stop it. It truly isn't attractive, it isn't working, no one enjoys that at all. Get your own pat on the back by loving on others, encourage, feed, smile, breath life into them and or just listen. Don't do it for any agenda, just pass out your love. Find someone and do a LaVon on them, make them feel like a million bucks, so important, loved and needed. Believe me we all need it !-)
If my Mother were still with us, oh boy I would thank her every day for the rest of my life for all the attention and edification she gave me. And yes, I didn't even realize it. Funny, I even thought it was her not trusting me, because she wanted to go over every little detail over and over. I honestly thought, dang doesn't she know I got this. But, that's not what she was doing at all. She didn't doubt me. She was appreciating me and my efforts, she was making up for all the others around that really never noticed 90percent of what I did for them. Okay, I know all of you that know me and knew her are thinking wait she was judgie Sam, you are really giving her a lot of slack. Well people you are right I am, because we all should. So what she wasn't perfect, so what we had our issues, we all do. I only hope I can learn from my mistakes and hers and hopefully say something now and then that will jar you. Free you from past bad habits, past wrong thinking. Open up, open your heart to the Lord today and see what you can do. Take me for example, zero Thanksgiving plans, not 30 people for my carefully prepared everything, not even 1. So I have to figure out what HE wants me to do, and I will be there, and I already know it is my job to go out and be edifying others. Thank You Lord!!
“Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church. I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified. Now, brothers and sisters, if I come to you and speak in tongues, what good will I be to you, unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or word of instruction?
