I saw a picture not too long ago on Twitter, simply saying 1 Corinthians 13, Love is forever. This same picture caught my eye well over a year ago, maybe two. I wrote a piece that I texted out to a smaller group. This message is inspired by that first one :: I hope it helps you get further in your walk. The first message was "What is Love Anyway?"
For those of you that are not familiar, this Chapter of the Bible is famous, a heavily quoted chapter both in the spiritual and secular worlds about love. Make sure to give yourself time to read the entire chapter and let it sink in, perhaps read it a few times. The message is so magnificent in that if follows the true nature of natural love so we can put our heads around it; going from the little things, or on the surface to deep and extraordinary. Thank You Lord!!
On the surface it is about love. We all get that, and easily brush it off as, and say "yeah I already know this God is love". Try this, Think about love from a different perspective, what happens if it isn't there. What happens in the total absence of Love? You don't have love at all. Stop and think about that
Love, real love, true love, unconditional love - it is so powerful - so critical - that without it you have NOTHING. Moreover, anything you do - I mean anything you do - becomes pointless. Biblically, it will not be blessed, it will instead be a brutal long and hard and lonely road, that leads to death.
Okay come back to good thoughts and continue to visual this with me ::
you repented. Which means in fact you saw your wrong ways, asked for forgiveness, and CHANGED your ways!
I hope that silence I am feeling is all of you thinking - oh gosh - I get it now! Yep that's the ticket, let that hit home.
How many times have you done something for someone, that you didn't want to do, but you had to prove or make sure that your good works were being seen!?!?!? Or, you were obligated? Or, you were just in automatic mode and vacant? Or, out of a defensive spirit. You know what I mean, you meet someone and they take offence to essentially everything out of your mouth or others. Lots of places this spirit comes from, but often in the church it comes out of religious thinking verses Grace thinking. Ultimately, always needing to preform. Can you hear this conversation in your head: I can't believe that friend, partner, or workmate would accuse me of being self centered. Saying I never do anything for anyone, I do stuff all the time. THEN what you fully launch into showing them! Showing everyone just how selfless you are, even how good or smart you are applies
You see you didn't do those actions, good works from a pure place of love, they actually came from a place of anger. Wow right! So where is your heart, your true motivation?
How about one of these, "I will show them competitive moments". Someone called you a loser or said no way you can't do "that". You then immediately jump into that kind of prove it mode. Sometimes we are temporarily successful, those of us that have perseverance and a true sense of competitiveness. Why did I say that? You might want to ask, Sam are you saying if i don't haven perseverance, nor a competitive spirit I am the group that can't do it? Well hold that thought - and instead focus on and the most important point I am trying to make. I will start with this:
Okay so just in case we have a few that get it, get it, get it. What is the fix? What do I need to do? This is a three step phase ::
Okay so just in case we have a few wanting to argue with me, or perhaps stall a little ::
Make sure to take all things into consideration on this matter and align your heart properly, e.g. to one far side narcissist total ME monger, other side Poor me, no since of self worth, Total Victim Martyr which is another version of total ME mode.
We want the middle and for all the right - Love based reasons. It may not be easy at all... But it is TOTALLY WORTH IT!!
For you business minded folks ::
It is interesting what the enemy has done to twist reality these days. To twist our true natures, our place as the nurturers, the Mothers, the Proverbs Wives, the Helpers. In the Bible there are two references to "The Helper", that is to Women's Role in Marriage and The Holy Spirit. This is an entire subject all to its own, that said for the purpose of this point. Please let it sink in, the role the Holy Spirit plays in ALL of our lives, our comforter, our helper is similar to our role as Women. Of course His Role is extraordinarily larger than ours, but for a moment take peace, joy and happiness in that point. Smile for heavens sake. Just because the world has confused us, made this unimportant, or old-school sexist to even think it - IS WRONG!!
Okay I am not picking on you. I am a Woman after all. I am saying please join in with me and regain YOUR POWER, Our Power as Women. We have extreme love capacity, yet we are not using it. We are often consumed with making sure our children are better than the others in their class, we are the best "show" Mom's/Wives, our house is the best, or the cleanest, or whatever. Our nurture protective nature can go to far, most especially if we are listening to the noise of the enemy. Look at yourself honestly, and make a change, a small one, then another and another. Be a Leader, a good example, a good testimony!
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” 1 Corinthians 13:1-7 NIV
