Before we are looking at other words other Hebrew words for praise I wanted to note that psalms 22 is 69 have to do with the suffering of Jesus the Messiah, especially those suffering is related to the crucifixion. In fact, passages from both the psalms are quoted and applied to the Lord Jesus in the Gospel's, most extensively so in the accounts of his death.
This is in reference to the praise piece that I wrote to explain TEHILLAH as praise and praise language; what it is that the Lord is commanding that we do. So right now I want to put a pause in it and say let's see what Jesus did.
How about we look at these two Palms and how much the Messiah himself understood the glorious nature of praising God. Start at Psalm 22 and Psalm 69; Jesus even held on to a determined anticipation of meeting of the multitudes in praise of God, while he was enduring sorrows him self. So the lesson here is you don't have to be happy to praise God you don't have to be free of stress to praise God, you don't have to have your life perfect before you can praise God. In fact the most powerful praise is praising him in your sorrow, Praising him because you know he will deliver you even while you're still amidst your pain that's that's the power of the real crazies. That is the power of faith. As believers we have to understand how important crazy is and in the midst of it how important it is for us to praise God, praise his holy name!!
In Psalm 22:3 the suffering redeemer acknowledges God's holiness, and he properly dwells (literally, "is seated") on the praises of Israel. Inverses 22 and 25 he pledges to lead out in praise in the midst of Gods vast congregation. In verse 27 he believes the results of his suffering will include the turning of all the world to Jehovah. As a result "… All the kindreds of the nation shall worship before thee"
additionally, in verse 26, he is in visioning praise and happiness among God's people.
The man of sorrows, The ONE acquainted with grief, had the glorifying and praising of our praiseworthy God so close to his heart. Certainly we who have so marvelously benefited from HIS great redemtion should never, never (for any reason), refrain from giving him praise all our lives. Everyone living and breathing is to praise our glorious God!
Similarly, and Psalm 69 the one on whom the reproaches fell, the one to whom they gave gall and vinegar in response to his thirst, still declares, "I will praise the name of God with the song, and will magnify him with Thanksgiving" that was verse 30.
And what was his final concern in this psalm of anguish? His goal was that heaven and earth, and even every creature in the sea, would come to praise God, and that his own people would be redeemed and inherit God's blessing in their land versus 34 through 36 what an amazing savior
In addition to TEHILLAH, there are other Hebrew words for praise like TOWDAH, and YADAH; they respectively are defined for such concepts as thanks, Thanksgiving. The king James translators chose praise, for these words, which normally have to do with lifting one's hands and thankfulness. One such case in psalms 50:23, where T0WDAH is translated praise. This family of words is used as extensively as BALLAL/TEHILLAH/TEHILLIM group.
There are numerous references in scripture to magnify God. To magnify him is to make him larger, grander and more magnificent than he was before in our understanding, our speech and our lives. We can read this even further the New Testament; see how the Savior chose to regard his own humiliations; he despised the shame. We can magnify own embarrassments and despise the Lord who judges fairly and maintains our cause, or we can belittle our own humiliations and make God's honor and concerns and his majestic reputation magnified even that much more.
So today let's do it, lift him up, praise him, praise him beyond our understanding our speech our lives beyond what we think is praiseworthy. Because he himself is the definition of praiseworthy! Thank you Lord, praise the Lord, praise his holy name hallelujah
